What to Do on Maui in June

Go Swimming

The arrival of summertime on Maui brings less forceful currents, making swimming conditions better for younger beach bums. One of our favorite places to swim is Ka’anapali Beach. Just a 35-minute drive from our inn, this stretch of shoreline boasts pristine white sand and crystal-clear waves. It’s also a popular spot for cliff jumping and snorkeling. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Volkswagen, a giant Hawaiian sea turtle that frequents the area and swims right up to visitors.

Local Tip: The drive to Ka’anapali along Maui’s coast is spectacular. We highly recommend bringing your camera and stopping at Papawai Scenic Lookout along the way!

Dine at the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival

Held each year in June, the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival is the longest-running food and wine event in the USA. This magical weekend celebrates Maui’s culinary bounty with wine tasting seminars, cooking demos, and a fabulous Grand Tasting. Experience Kamehameha Day

June 11th is Kamehameha Day, a Hawaii state holiday honoring King Kamehameha. He was the founder and first ruler of the Kingdom of Hawaii and united the islands in 1890. Today, the annual Kamehameha Day celebration includes a colorful parade, live music, hula, and food and craft booths at Banyan Tree Park in Lahaina. It’s fun for visitors of all ages!

Attend the Maui Film Festival

The Maui Film Festival is one of the island’s most anticipated summer events. Typically held at the end of June, this star-studded festival features culinary exhibitions, gala parties, and film screenings at “Celestial Cinema”, a 50-foot outdoor movie screen set on the Wailea Gold Golf Course. Relax at the Hawaiian Slack Key Festival

Who doesn’t love live music? The Kī Hō`alu Guitar Festival is a free outdoor concert that features some of Hawaii’s top slack key guitar musicians. Festival-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, or lauhala mats and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere.
