The Maui County Fair Is the Perfect Event for Families

Ferris Wheel

While most people think of Maui as a summer destination, one of the best events of the year takes place in the fall. The Maui County Fair is the largest event on the island and has been a valued tradition among locals for nearly 100 years. Each October, the annual Maui event brings over 100,000 people together for three days of entertainment, food, and fun in the sun. Will you be in attendance this year? 5 Things to Expect at the Maui County Fair

1. The Maui Fair Parade

The traditional Maui Fair parade acts as the grand opening of the event. The celebration includes marching bands, floats, dancers, and more, and it all starts at the UH Maui College Campus. To get there, turn right onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue and proceed to Kanaloa Avenue. Don’t forget to wave and take photos of all the parade participants as they go by!

2. Maui Fair Pie Contest

The finest bakers on the island go head-to-head in this deliciously fun competition! Each pie is judged on taste, consistency, looks, and color. The baker of the best pie receives a grand prize of $250 cash and an overnight stay on Maui!

3. The Joy Zone

With dozens of family-friendly rides, the Joy Zone at the Maui County Fair is one of the best attractions for kids. The Zipper and the Pharaoh Swing have been hugely popular in past years, and the tame children’s carousel is perfect for little ones. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, don’t miss the flipping madness of the Inverter! All of the rides cost 3-6 tickets, and tickets are $1 each.

4. Vendors

Of course, one of the best things to do at the fair is to explore all of the different booths and vendors. You’ll find a variety of products and services including souvenir trinkets, pots and pans, jewelry, koa wood items, and more. It’s always fun to see what people are selling!

5. Attractions

Throughout the course of the weekend, guests are welcome to enjoy local food, live music, and other entertainment. Feel free to munch on classic carnival eats like cotton candy and funnel cake, then try some Hawaiian-inspired cuisine like ahi poke and poi. Visitors can also view exhibits, demonstrations, and contests like the Fire Fried Rice Challenge, Maui Fair “Baby of the Year”, and the highly anticipated Chili Cook-Off. Be sure to check the fair schedule for a full list of events as well as information on admission and hours.
