1. Experience Haleakala at Sunrise

Haleakala is an inactive volcano that towers 10,000 feet above sea level. It’s the highest point on Maui and is an awesome place to watch the sun light up the sky. We suggest planning a sunrise visit to Haleakala on the first or second morning of your vacation, particularly if you are coming from the mainland. You’ll be jet lagged and will have no problem waking up early!

Local Tip: Reservations are required for sunrise viewing at Haleakala National Park. You can make your reservations ahead of time at recreation.gov. Be sure to bring your reservation receipt and a photo ID when you visit.

2. Explore the Bailey House Museum

Built in 1833, The Bailey House Museum is the largest and oldest history museum on the island. It houses an incredible collection of Hawaiian antiques as well as missionary, monarchy, and plantation-era artifacts. The museum’s gardens and grounds are filled with rare Hawaiian plants, including a few endangered species. And it’s all just half a mile from our inn!

Local Tip: Finish up your tour with a visit to the museum gift shop. The shop offers a variety of locally-made items including Maui coffee, soap, and sea salt.

3. Attend a Luau

If you’re looking for fun things to do on Maui with kids, head to the Old Lahaina Luau. This authentic Hawaiian party is perfect for an evening out with the family. You’ll experience traditional music, dance, and food that reflects the island’s rich history and culture. A bountiful buffet of regional cuisine is offered, and dinner is accompanied by an outstanding hula show.

4. Drive the Road to Hana

The Road to Hana is the undisputed top attraction on the island. This iconic route connects Kahului with the town of Hana and features 600 curves, 59 bridges, and countless lookout points along the way. This Polynesian thatch-roof restaurant floats on a lagoon and boasts spectacular sunset views. Diners can expect delicious island cuisine, handcrafted beverages, and award-winning service at this high-end eatery.

Local Tip: For a truly one-of-a-kind dining experience, make reservations at table 70. It’s the best seat in the house!

6. See the Nakalele Blowhole

Located just east of Poelua Bay, the Nakalele Blowhole is a magical and mysterious sight to behold. The giant lava tube shoots powerful blasts of water up to 100 feet in the air (similar to a geyser) and is surrounded by twisted lava formations, steep slopes, and churning waves. It’s also one of only three natural blowholes in the world. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

Caution: Getting too close to the blowhole is extremely dangerous. Make sure to always stay at least 20 feet away and look for signs of rough water sweeping across the area.
