The Chef

Before earning chef stardom, Masaharu Morimoto was to be drafted as a baseball catcher in Japan’s major leagues. When a shoulder injury ended his promising career, Morimoto began studying sushi in his hometown of Hiroshima. He quickly grasped the technique and opened his first restaurant at age 24. Five years later, he moved to America to explore a cuisine that combines the best of both continents.

Morimoto opened his eponymous Morimoto Restaurant in Philadelphia in 2001. He then opened a slew of eateries in almost a dozen cities, including Mumbai, Tokyo, New York City, Hawaii, and many others. He even competed on the Japanese television show Iron Chef and Food Network’s Iron Chef America. Today, Morimoto and his restaurants have garnered critical acclaim. His incredible dishes and signature style continue to excite thousands of diners all over the world.

The Menu

The menu at Morimoto Maui utilizes fresh, local ingredients from Hawaii and seamlessly integrates Western and Japanese ingredients.
