Your Complete Maui Packing List

1. Clothing

Wondering what to wear on Maui? Think comfortable and casual! Hawaii’s warm weather calls for shorts, T-shirts, hats, and sunglasses. We also suggest packing a pair of jeans and a sweater for those occasional windy nights. Try to bring pieces that are versatile so you can mix-and-match your outfits. (For example, a T-shirt can double as a beach cover-up). It will save you tons of space in your suitcase!

Visitors should also limit bulky shoes and socks. Just wear flip flops! If you plan to go hiking, biking, or horseback riding, bring a pair of good athletic shoes.

Our Tip: Many local women prefer loose, waist-free sundresses to shorts or pants because dresses allow more air to circulate. Additionally, hotels and restaurants usually require that women put a cover-up over a swimsuit. Men will need to wear a shirt.

2. Toiletries

We know how difficult it can be to bring toiletries on a plane. (3 oz. or less? Come on!) Luckily, almost anything you need is available close by on Maui. You can easily purchase a forgotten item like bug spray or sunscreen, but you will likely pay a higher price than back home. We recommend bringing a quart-sized bag of liquids, gels, and creams and in your carry-on bag for use on the island.

Our Tip: Keep in mind that Hawaii is closer to the equator than the rest of the U.S. It’s easy to get burned if you’re not careful, so don’t skimp on sunscreen or after-sun lotion!

3. Travel Essentials

There are a few items that are absolutely necessary while traveling. Those include cell phones/chargers, health insurance cards, credit cards, driver’s license, tickets/travel vouchers, and a passport if you’re not a U.S. citizen. Don’t forget to bring a camera and extra memory cards to document all of your incredible adventures!
