These are some of the most Frequently Asked Questions we receive from guests. If we have not answered your question please feel free to email OR call us.
Q: What are The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono office hours?
A: Office hours are Monday-Friday: 8am to 4pm, Saturday: 8am to 1pm, and Sunday: Closed.
Please leave a message if we are not able to answer the phones immediately. We have a small staff and may be on another reservation phone call or with our in-house guests. Just a reminder there is a time difference--West coast is 2-3 hours ahead/ East coast 5-6 hours ahead depending on the time of year.
Q: Is breakfast included and where is it served? Can I cook my own food?
A: A full breakfast is included with your stay. Breakfast is served daily at 8am, one seating time only, in our breakfast room located on the 2nd floor of the Main House. We do not offer in-room breakfast service. Breakfast is available for in-house guests only per Maui County Bed and Breakfast Ordinances.
We do not have kitchen facilities available for guest use.
Q: Can I eat earlier or later?
A: You may request a continental breakfast as early as 7am-8am. We do not offer a breakfast service later than 8am. Continental breakfast is also served in our breakfast room, located on the 2nd floor of the main house.
Q: Do you serve lunch or dinner?
A: We serve breakfast only. We are happy to give you restaurant recommendations for lunch and dinner.
Q: Does the Old Wailuku Inn provide airport pick up/drop off?
A: The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono does not provide any airport transportation. We will gladly recommend a local taxi company. We highly recommend renting a vehicle during your stay if you plan on seeing the island. We do have public transportation, the Maui Bus, but routes are limited and do not go to visitor destinations such as Haleakala, Iao Needle and Hana. The Maui Bus has luggage restrictions and does not include the airport on its central Maui/Wailuku routes. Q: Are there laundry facilities on property?
A: We do not have laundry facilities on property. The closest laundromat is less than a 10 minute drive away. You have the option of doing it yourself or you can drop off in the morning and pick up late afternoon. They charge by the load, not by the piece.
Q: When is check-in/ check-out?
A: Check-in is any time after 2pm. We are unable to guarantee an earlier check-in time. If you arrive before 2pm and your room is not available we are able to hold your luggage for a short period and have it placed in the room once it is ready. Check-out is by 11:30a.m. Late check-out is not available. No luggage storage available after check-out. Arrangements can be made directly with "Extra Space Storage" for temporary storage of luggage for those with late flights out. For more information and pricing please call (808) 877-2600.
Q: Do you have rooms that can accommodate more than two(2) people?
A: Most of our rooms are two(2) persons maximum capacity, regardless of age or size.
The Mokihana room OR the Lokelani room are the exceptions. Each has a maximum capacity of three(3) people, regardless of age or size, to include infant/child. A third person surcharge will be applied automatically on reservations for the Mokihana and the Lokelani rooms for the third occupant. All other rooms do not have a capacity of more than two(2) persons, to include an infant/child.
Please note, if you have a family of four(4) your party will require two rooms. For families with an infant/child/children under the age of 18, we require that an adult occupy the same room.
Maximum guest capacity for the property is twenty-two(22) persons, to include infant/child (regardless of age or size). NO exceptions.
Q: Are infant/children allowed?
A: Infant/children are welcome, please be aware of the room capacity. The guest capacity listed for each room is the maximum capacity for that particular room. Most of our rooms are two(2) persons maximum capacity, this includes the infant/child. No exceptions.
If an infant/child is your third person, you will require the Mokihana room or the Lokelani room- maximum capacity is three(3) people, this includes an infant/child.
Q: Are you located on the beach? Do you have views?
A: The Inn is located in central Maui in the historical, residential town of Wailuku. We are not known for our views because we are inland---some of our rooms do have a view of the West Maui mountains or of Mt. Haleakala. We are not on the beach, the closest swimming beach is about 15 to 20 minutes drive to Kihei (South Maui) and 30 to 45 minutes drive to Lahaina (West Maui).
Q: What visitor attractions are near you?
A: Most visitor attractions are within 5 to 45 minutes drive time from our inn. Iao Needle, Maui Tropical Plantation, Maui Arts and Cultural Center - 5 to 7 minutes drive time.
The Bailey Museum- less than a 10 minute walk from the inn.
Maui Ocean Center, Puunene Sugar Cane Museum- 10 minutes drive time.
Mt. Haleakala is approximately 90 minutes drive time one way.
Hana is 2 1/2 to 3 hours one way to include sightseeing.
Q: Is there a pool or jacuzzi on property?
A: We do not have a pool or jacuzzi on property. The Ulu, Mokihana and 'Ilima rooms have a whirlpool tub/shower combinations.
Q: Is parking available on property and is there a fee?
A: Free parking on property is available. Space is limited to one parking stall per room.
Q: Do I need to bring my own beach towels?
A: Beach towels, beach mats and coolers are available for guests use at all times in the common area of the main house.
Q: Do you have a refrigerator and microwave?
A: A small refrigerator and microwave, located in the common breakfast area, is available for all guests use. We do not have in-room refrigerators. We do not have in-room kitchenettes or kitchen facilities available for guest use.
Q: Do you have kitchen facilities for guest use?
A: No, we do not have kitchen facilities available for guest use. A small refrigerator and microwave, located in the common breakfast area, is available for all guests use. We do not have in-room refrigerators. We do not have in-room kitchenettes or kitchen facilities available for guest use.
Q: Do all rooms have private bathrooms?
A: Yes, all 10 guest rooms have their own private bathrooms.
Q: Do guest rooms have air-conditioning?
A: Yes, all 10 guest rooms have air-conditioning. The Main House (Veranda/Garden) rooms have a central a/c system. Please note that the windows in our Veranda and Garden rooms do NOT open in order to better conserve energy used for the central air-conditioning system. The Vagabond House rooms have a split a/c system which allows for individual room climate control and the ability to turn on/off. If you prefer to be able to open windows you will want to consider the Puakenikeni, Plumeria or Miulana rooms.
Q: Can I turn on/off the air-conditioning?
A: ONLY in the Vagabond's House rooms--- Miulana, Plumeria, and Puakenikeni, can the air-conditioning be turned on/off and windows opened.
All 7 main house guest room air-conditioning can be turned on/off and have temperature controls. Please note that the windows in our Veranda and Garden rooms do NOT open in order to better conserve energy used for the central air-conditioning system.
Q: Do you have internet access?
A: Yes, we have FREE wireless internet access.
Q: What amenities does my room have?
A: All guest rooms have hairdryer, iron/board, coffeemaker, TV and phone. Local (Maui island only) and toll free calls are no charge. A calling card is required for all long distance calls. Aveda bath products are used in all guest rooms.
Q: What is a vertical spa?
A: All Vagabond's House rooms have a shower stall equipped with wall jets, hand held shower head, and an oversized rainmaker type showerhead.
Q: What is the Veranda floor? Garden floor?
A: Veranda floor rooms are located on the 2nd floor of the Main House. Garden floor rooms are located on the ground level of the Main House. The Lehua, Hibiscus, and 'Ilima rooms each have a private garden area.
Q: How far is the Vagabond's House from the Main House?
A: The Vagabond's House is just a few steps away, across the driveway from the Main House.
Q: Do I need a credit card to make a reservation?
A: Yes, a credit card(Visa or MasterCard Only) is required to secure all room reservations. A payment by check may be made but must be received prior to the specified due dates (advance payment/cancellation fee and remaining balance due dates) to prevent automatic charges to your credit card.
Q: When do I make my payments?
A: Advance payment/cancellation fee is due 60 days prior to your arrival date.
Remaining balance is due 15 days prior to your arrival date.
Your reservation is pre-paid before arrival. Please mark your calendar.
If a charge is unable to be processed due to lack of funds your reservation may be cancelled. If the remaining balance charge is unable to be processed due to lack of funds or invalid credit card information your reservation will be cancelled with the loss of your advance payment/cancellation fee.
Q: What if I need to cancel my reservation?
A: You will need to notify us in writing that you wish to cancel, best methods are e-mail or fax. Depending on when you have cancelled you may lose your advance payment/cancellation fee or total balance. Please refer to our Cancellation Policy in the Policies section of our website. Payments are non-refundable once they have been processed.
Review Policies below:
A $50.00 (fifty dollars U.S.) nonrefundable advance payment/cancellation fee per room is due 60 days prior to the arrival date.
EXCEPTION: The nonrefundable advance payment/Cancellation fee is equivalent to one full room night charge during the period December 20 through January 2. Written cancellation received 61 days prior to the arrival date avoids forfeiture of advance payment/cancellation fee per room. Remaining balance is due 15 days prior to arrival date, nonrefundable. Cancellations received within 15 (fifteen) days of the arrival date forfeit full stay. Possibility of refund only if room nights are resold less the advance payment/cancellation fee.
Please Note: If credit card on file is declined at any point, the reservation will automatically be cancelled with no refund. Please be sure to contact us should a change to the credit card on file be needed.
